"Criticism, Craft, and Concept in Contemporary Art" Igor Pasternak is an adjunct art instructor at UAF. He was born in 1967 in Odessa, a Ukranian port city on the coast of the Black Sea. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Odessa Polytechnical University in1991. He and his family immigrated to the US in 1992 to Chicago. Pasternak began his education in fine art when he came to Alaska in 2000, earning his BFA in Painting from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks in 2005. His thesis exhibition, entitled Odessa Borealis, simultaneously celebrated life on the coasts of the Black Sea and the Bering Strait. He earned his MFA in Studio Art at American University in 2009, returning thereafter to Fairbanks. Pasternak's paintings have been shown at the Annex and other galleries and are part of the permanent collection at the University of Alaska Museum of the North in Fairbanks. | |||||
