The Book Club meets on the first Monday of each month, 5 – 7 pm
Read selected fiction and nonfiction books in Science/Nature/Sci Fi and bring your notes, favorite passages, critiques and facts to share. We can all learn something from discussing the book thoughtfully together.
For the first Monday in February, we’re reading…
Woolly: The True Story of the Quest to Revive History’s Most Iconic Extinct Creature by Ben Mezrich
This non-fiction book is paced like a novel, describing scientists’ efforts to “bring back” the woolly mammoth from extinction—and the mammoth’s potential reintroduction to the arctic. We will consider the science, ethics and more.
Meet at the John Trigg Ester Library, 3629 Main Street across from the Golden Eagle Saloon.
Drop by the Clausen Cabin in Ester to make a Pellet Drum between 10 am and noon, Saturday, January 14, 2023! The traditional Chinese instrument called the Bolang Gu, or pellet drum, is used in Chinese ritual music and as a children’s toy.

Your JTEL library is expanding its current fiction section to include more recent best-selling books and authors. Look for our special section or ask a library assistant. Looking for adventure and mystery? Check out works by Lee Child and David Baldacci. Do you like strong female private investigators? We have selections by Sarah Paretsky, Jacqueline Windspear, and Margaret Coel. We have assorted individual best-sellers by several winning authors!
Look further onto our regular shelves of fiction for more works. Did you enjoy the Tom Hanks film “A Man Called Otto”? Read the original novel by Swedish author, Frederick Backman. We have many other classic and recent novels among our large collection of fiction.
If you wish to donate a recent best-seller you have finished, bring it to the library during open hours, give it to the volunteer to place in the box, and we will try to work it onto our shelf. Please limit these donations to current award-winning fiction or by award-winning authors as our space is limited.
Come by your local Ester library and see what’s new!
